Chrysanthemum First Day Name Activity

Hello fellow teachers! I just love reading how everyone is gearing up for the new school year. Your ideas are so inspiring, keep them coming!

This is a favorite activity that I do with my class on the first day. I'm sure many of you do as well. It's just a great way for the students to get to know each other.

We read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. Then we talk about our special names, graph the letters in our names, do various name games. I send this home on the first day. We then share a few over the course of the week. The kids just LOVE sharing about their special name!
